win32kfull.sys BSOD When Printing – SOLVED!

Over the past couple of days there has been an influx of users online reporting BSOD (blue screen of death) when printing, the culprit being win32kfull.sys – the BSOD error as below:

Stop code: APC_INDEX_MISMATCH
What failed: win32kfull.sys

This appears to be caused by a bad Windows Update from Microsoft, and so far there are 2 possible fixes.

Fix 1

The first fix is quite simple – update your printer drivers. You should be able to obtain the latest version of these from your printer manufacturers website.

Fix 2

Also a pretty simple fix, however I would try fix 1 one prior to fix 2. Uninstall the updates that have caused this. The updates that appear to have caused this are KB5000802, KB5000822, KB5000809 and KB5000808 (depending on your version of Windows 10). If you’re in an enterprise environment it maybe worth declining these updates in WSUS until Microsoft offer a fix.

These updates can be uninstalled as follows:

  1. Open command prompt from the start menu as an administrator.
  2. Run the following commands
    wusa /uninstall /kb:5000802
    wusa /uninstall /kb:5000822
    wusa /uninstall /kb:5000808
    wusa /uninstall /kb:5000809
  3. Restart your computer. This may not be necessary but is always recommended after adding/removing updates.
  4. win32kfull.sys BSOD error should be resolved.
