I recently had a user repeatedly getting the error “your mic has been muted by your system settings” when trying to join or host a Google Meet on a Windows 10 device. External microphones, with both USB and 3.5mm audio connections, suffered the same issue.
After trying all the steps in my previous post, I was at a bit of a loss, until I found a new comment posted earlier today on a Google support forum in and amongst another 250 posts.
The Fix
It’s oddly simple, and doesn’t seem to make much sense – but it works!
- Click Start
- Go to settings
- Click System
- Click Sound
- Scroll to the bottom of the sound Windows and click Reset.
All the settings were already set as default, and resetting them changed nothing but it still helped. - Restart your browser and you should be good to go.
