If you are receiving the error message: “Remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator” when trying to use remote desktop, be it via invoking an MSTSC session or using something such as RDWeb, it’s actually a pretty easy fix.
Simply launch regedit as an administrator and delete the following key.
NOTE – I would ALWAYS recommend taking a backup of your registry BEFORE you start deleting keys, just in case!
Next, try accessing the remote session again. In some cases (especially if you’re account isn’t a local administrator) there’s one further step that needs to be done.Again – it’s simple.
Just start the remote session as an administrator. If you’re running MSTSC either create a shortcut and then click choose “Run as administrator” or if it’s something web based like RDWeb simply right click Internet Explorer and choose “Run as administrator”.
Once you’ve logged into the session after running it as administrator, it can be run as a standard user again. The reason for needing the admin rights is simply to allow the registry entry you deleted to be recreated.
